Honda CR-Z To Hit Europe. U.S. When?
The Honda CR-Z, to be seen at the Geneva Auto Show, should be at European dealerships in 2009 or 2010. The Europeans have a larger stake in the vehicle with Honda Germany handling the engineering, and Honda UK the design. But this doesn’t mean it won’t find its way to the U.S., but there’s no official word on the CR-Z coming stateside.
It may come down to how successful it is in the European market, or how much pressure Honda gets from potential customers in America. There is excitement brewing for hybrid and electric sports cars (see Tesla), and this is a way not only for Honda to appeal to this market, but to also make inroads on Toyota’s Prius by marketing themselves as not only environmentally friendly, but environmentally friendly and performance driven.
Honda is also promising more hybrid vehicles in the near future. No word on if these will be hybrid versions of current models, or new ones like the CR-Z. With Honda’s goal of having hybrid vehicles make up 10% of sales by 2010, expect hybrid sedans, trucks and SUVs.
The CR-Z is expected to run about $40,000 (U.S. dollars).
